ABOUT THIS BOOK

I was originally motivated to write the first edition of this book for two reasons, firstly to protect the copyright of the information contained in my original ring bound course notes and secondly due to the fact that there had never been a comprehensive handbook combing the highly misunderstood and advanced subjects of bush flying, mountain flying, survival and aircraft technical all into one book.

There are other individual books on bush, mountain, float and ski flying available. However the content applies mostly to the far northern regions of America, in particular Alaska. Africa for example, is vastly different in many ways therefore a lot of the information is totally irrelevant to the African or jungle bush pilot. This book focuses more on operations in the subtropical and tropical areas of the world.

Apart from my original ring bound course notes, I had never written anything before in my life and never imagined myself ever becoming an author. It has been a major learning curve to say the least especially as I chose to self publish

I was very cautious and conservative in the way I wrote the first edition as it was the first book of its kind and I was unsure as to how some people would react to it. However, in this second edition I decided to go all the way and elaborate as much as possible on techniques and procedures that although may be frowned upon by some, definitely produce amazing results! In this edition I also covered as much as I could on turbo-prop operations.

This book focuses mainly on highly advanced techniques and skills required to operate safely in remote, challenging and extreme conditions. However, before reading this book any further, please read the Disclaimer and Warning as most of the flying techniques mentioned in this book are of such an extreme nature that they should never be attempted by any inexperienced, non-proficient or poorly trained pilot.
